Recently, I saw a local photographer advertising a "special sale" to do location portraits. The photograph the photographer used to display their "ability" was an example of what I try to teach my students on what NOT to do. The picture was a family portrait of mom, dad and young girl. In order to protect the identity of the subjects and the photographer, I have cut out any recognizable features. The little girls face was mostly washed out by the sun so you could hardly see her in the photo. Ironic since she for several reasons was the main focus of the picture. The fathers head was what we call "hot" or in other words over exposed or washed out as well. Unfortunately, this is poor photography that some poor family received. There are many cases with photographers just like this one. Hopefully you can see what I mean in the image below.
