Big Events in Photography for the month of October! The Click! Photography Festival has events going on all October long!

Click! is honored to bring Guggenheim Fellow award winner Louie Palu to the
Triangle area through combined efforts of the Click Photography Festival, UNC School of Media
and Journalism, Duke University Center for Documentary Studies and the William and Ida
Friday Center for Continuing Education.
At 12pm on Oct. 4th, there will be an Opening reception for a very unique outdoor photography exhibit
created by Louie Palu called “Garmsir Marines”, held at UNC's Forest Theater in Chapel Hill. “Wars
old and new form the fabric of this country, photography can be a window for a community to come
together to reflect on what that means to each of us” -Louie Palu. Mr. Palu has covered three wars in
the past 10-years including Afghanistan, Mexican drug war and Ukraine.
Louie Palu will hold a 3 day series of workshop from 6-9pm on Oct. 4-6th at Duke University's Center
for Documentary Studies. This three part series of intensive workshops are for photographers and film
makers looking to significantly advance their work in the industry. Drawing on his 25+ years of
experience as a documentary photographer, Louie Palu will share his specialized in-depth knowledge
on successfully completing a long-term photography project from start to finish. Mr. Palu specializes in
and is best known for his many award winning projects; including a 15-year long project called Cage
Call: Life and Death In The Hard Rock Mining Belt on the working lives of hard rock miners. Mr. Palu
has been awarded 15 grants and fellowships to fund his work. His experience will guide an in-depth
lesson on grant writing. Having been mentored by some of the world’s most recognized curators and
photo editors, an in-depth lesson on long form editing and sequencing images for books and exhibitions
will be a core component of this workshop. Fieldwork techniques from working at home in your own
community to woking in war zones will be covered. The third part of the series will be on successful
audio and video techniques to create your work, along with successfully publishing and exhibiting of
your work.
On Saturday, Oct. 7th at 6:30pm Mr. Palu will be the Keynote speaker at 100 Friday Center Drive,
Chapel Hill. The event is free and open to the public. His work has been featured on the BBC, NPR,
The New York Times and TIME magazine.
On Sunday, Oct. 8th at 1pm Mr. Palu will present two short films based on his time embedded in
Kandahar Afghanistan and the Ukraine. Viewing will be at the Varsity Theatre, Chapel Hill. Entry is
free and open to the public.
