NC Governor Roy Cooper October Proclamation

Sept. 9, 2017 - North Carolina, Governor Roy Cooper has decided to make October
the official “Month of Photography” for the state. Click! holds an annual
photography festival in the Triangle spanning the month of October.

The “CLICK! Photography Festival” celebrates the medium of photography and its
cultural influence by engaging the North Carolina Triangle community and state with
exceptional photo-based works and artists. The month-long festival in October brings
together exhibitions and programming while fostering dialogue between photographers
and community members, all in hopes of inspiring artistic excellence, supporting
professional development and promoting community engagement.

This October, the Click! Photography Festival will offer a diverse array of unique
photographic opportunities to the triangle and state. The core events will take place
from October 4 – 8th called “Click! 120” ( named for 120 hours and a special medium
format film commonly used by professional photographers). This is no small event.
Those 120 hours will feature Keynote addresses, Portfolio Reviews, Workshops, Art
Bus Tours, Panel Discussions, Artist Talks, Gallery and Museum openings and more.

Click! will be bringing some very big names and events to the capital city area from the
fields of photography and art. As part of Click! 120 there is our “Click! Academy”
offering a wealth of informative lectures.:
• Click! is pleased to partner with Duke's Center for Documentary Studies, The
William and Ida Friday Center and the UNC School of Media and Journalism to
offer a 3 part series of intensive workshops, Keynote lecture, film screening and
exhibition by the esteemed photographer, filmmaker and educator Louie Palu.
• Click! is pleased to partner with Duke's MFA/EDA program, East Carolina
University Art Department, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to
offer a 2 part series of seminars on professional development for artists and
photographers by author and educator Mary Virginia Swanson.
• Click! is pleased to partner with the Art Institute of Raleigh Durham to present a
seminar by Peter Krogh, author of THE DAM BOOK (about rapid high quality
digitization).
• Click! is pleased to partner with Cassilhaus to present a workshop by
photographer, author and educator Sean Kernan.
• Click! is pleased to partner with the Nasher Museum to present a keynote talk by
the legendary, visionary curator and author Anne Wilkes Tucker.
• Click! is pleased to partner with the North Carolina Museum of Art to present a
keynote talk by photographer Matthew Brandt.

Click! is sponsoring many other amazing events held during the month of October:

• Click! is proud to partner with the City of Durham's Public Art Committee and
Photoville to present THE FENCE in Durham. THE FENCE is the largest
photography public art exhibit in the world. The Fence is being displayed in
Durham August - November 2017 and is a part of the Click! ART BUS TOUR.
• During the month of October Click! is also pleased to present well over 35 major
photography exhibits in the Triangle area.
• Click! is pleased to announce the winner of our first ever $2,500 PIC grant to
Leah Sobsey and Tim Telkamp who will use the UNCG Art Truck as a mobile
wet plate studio. They will be making a series of Tintype portraits at Click events
as well as in neighborhoods that might not necessarily participate in Click events
otherwise.
• Click! Is pleased to sponsor a PORTFOLIO REVIEW for photographers by 12
esteemed curators, collectors, editors and authors from all over the US.

Click! is proud to round out the end of the month with the very rare and “Mythical”
Giant Polaroid Camera. This is one of the LAST opportunities to use the Camera in its
final year of operation. The 20x24” Camera will be in residence at Anchorlight in
Raleigh from Oct. 27-29th. The 20×24” Polaroid history runs deep with artists such as
Chuck Close, Mary Ellen Mark, William Wegman, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg
and many more. The public, for a fee, has the opportunity to use the “mythical beast”.
The resulting print will be a one of a kind heirloom for many generations to come.
