How many of my viewers that have taken my classes remember any of the “Compositional Rules” that I taught? Hmmm? Well what is the first one? Never place your subject……? Okay, so let’s take a look at my Lemur photo. When getting in tight on a subject I like to play the lines. If it looks like the Lemur is in the center, he is not. If you compare the two shortest distances from the edge of the Lemur to the edge of the page, you will see that the Lemur is more on the right side of the picture. Another rule, always have your subject looking, driving, walking….. into the picture, not out of the picture. The Lemur is looking into the picture. Notice his eye is just to the right of center. What could he possibly be looking at? Food.
Another feature is lighting. As I watched the Lemur in the tree, when he looked down his face was in the shadows. When the Lemur looked up his face was perfectly illuminated by the sun. So, I waited for him to look up again.
